Frank & Ella: An Evening To Remember

  • Tybee Post Theater 10 Van Horne Ave Tybee Island, Ga (map)

This evening celebrates the life of Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald, two powerhouses who have been made a major impact in the shaping of American music. Sinatra lived the songs he sang while Ella sang the songs the everyone else lived. Sinatra thought the world of Ella! He said: “Ella Fitzgerald … is the greatest popular singer in the world, barring none—male or female.” That's a lot coming from the crooner who melted every woman's heart! With a rich friendship that lasted through many decades, it is a pleasure to honor them with two of Savannah's finest singers!

Born a decade too late, Trae Gurley’s voice embodies the heart and mind of jazz greats. His influences are vast, but his voice specializes in the smooth sounds of Sinatra and the sophisticated styling of The American Songbook legends. Performing songs from tunes like Mercer, Porter, Gershwin, Cahn along with a few of Sinatra's torch songs and the result is a mesmerizing mix touching on all the styles of jazz. For the past 25 years, Trae has been performing the songs that speak to him. He's older than he looks! Aside from Sinatra, you've probably seen Trae's recent performance of Elvis' 1967 Album, "How Great Thou Art". Did we also mention Trae can take your breath away performing Ray Charles?!

Laiken Love has captured the hearts of many, with a voice that can fill a room and sweeten your heart. Laiken's sound embodies the influence of Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, and Etta James. She's also been known to embody the soulfulness of the late great Aretha Franklin. Laiken's repertoire is pretty expansive! You never know what she'll sing! You've seen her all around town performing with her band Fellowship of Love. Did we mention that she's a classically trained singer?!

This night will not be complete without Savannah's favorite jazz group, The Eric Jones Trio! Eric Jones is a has made a major impact on the Savannah jazz scene. When he's not performing he's teaching music at Savannah State University. You can catch his group weekly at Good Times Jazz Bar & Restaurant. Members include Marc Chesanow and Robert Saunders.
